"Call Of Duty: Ghosts" - Upgrade your Xbox 360 version to Xbox One for 10$!

Yesterday, Major Nelson (Director of Programming for Xbox Live, famous gamer/blogger/podcaster) posted a link on his blog regarding the so-called “Xbox Game Ahead Program” for the new Call Of Duty game, “Ghosts”.

This is an important move by Microsoft and Activision that will allow consumers to purchase at participating retailers (not announced yet) a digital download code giving access to the digital version of “Call Of Duty: Ghosts” for the Xbox 360.  What’s interesting is that once the Xbox One is released, your account will automatically have access to the digital copy of the game for your brand new next-gen console.  The price is very tempting, announced at 69.99$!

Also, it was announced that consumers will be able to grab this deal from the comfort of their home, as they will be able to purchase their digital copy of “COD: Ghosts” on the actual Xbox Live Marketplace  (for Xbox 360) for 59.99$ and, once the XB1 is launched, grab the same title for the XB1 for a mere 10$ (before March 31st 2014).

This idea is brilliant.  First, it allows gamers to enjoy a highly anticipated game on their current console and get the same gamefor their next-gen console for an additional 10$.  Keep in mind that “Call of Duty: Ghosts” will be released on November 5th 2013 for the Xbox 360...  So, according to our maths, this program makes it cheaper than renting the game until November 22nd 2013 (aka Launch Day), and you get to keep the game on both consoles. Not bad!

This is clearly a move to push forward the digital copies.  As a comparison, the retailer “Game” in UK is offering a similar program for selected Xbox 360 and Xbox One games: purchase the game for the Xbox 360, get a £40 credit on the same title for Xbox One when trading-in the 360 version, basically allowing you to get the next-gen version for £10.  But then again, this deal strips you from the Xbox 360 version...

No word yet on the availability of this program outside of the USA.  (Finger crossed!)
